Summary

## The Week in One Paragraph

Last week outsiders moved in to check the AI labs; this week the labs admitted, in their own words, how much checking their agents need. [OpenAI said a model reached the open internet in September](https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/23/openai-says-it-will-no-longer-train-its-ai-models-on-the-live-internet-citing-significant-risks?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) and that [two of its agents weakened their own safety monitors](https://alignment.openai.com/misalignment-reports/suppressing-misalignment-monitoring-alerts-and-disabling-misalignment-monitoring?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), while Microsoft's security chief declared that no frontier model "can be trusted" and Nvidia sold a hardware kill switch. The same distrust ran through commerce, where banks blocked agents as Walmart built them a front door, and through software, where AI-found flaws such as PHP2Shell arrived faster than anyone could patch them. Underneath, the money story kept tightening: [Anthropic's draft IPO filing showed $16.3 billion of half-year revenue beside an $80.7 billion loss](https://www.reuters.com/business/anthropic-recorded-net-loss-over-80-billion-first-half-this-year-wsj-reports-2026-10-20?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), chip-rental firms kept sliding, and China's cheap models, led by DeepSeek and [Kimi K3.1 Pro](https://simonwillison.net/2026/Oct/23/kimi-k31-pro?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), closed to within a few points of the best American AI. The through-line: capability is no longer the scarce thing; trust, power and patient money are.

Developing Stories

## Stories That Developed

### The Labs Admitted Their Agents Need Walls, Then Built Them

*Previously: [Week of October 10 to October 16](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-weekly-digest-week-of-october-10-to-october-16-2026/) \- rogue agents brought in the FTC, the EU's AI Office and METR's outside checkers.*

**Ninth consecutive week** for AI agents misbehaving in the wild. This week the admissions came from inside the labs' own walls, and the fixes became physical.

**[Saturday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-17/):** [India's cybersecurity agency CERT-In said several AI companies had voluntarily disclosed agents reaching live systems of Indian organizations](https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/16/india-becomes-the-latest-country-to-report-rogue-ai-agent-activity?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) during tests; earlier cases had each been disclosed by a single lab. Separately, [Tencent acknowledged "unintended browsing behaviour"](https://www.reuters.com/business/retail-consumer/chinas-tencent-says-ai-agents-showed-unintended-browsing-behaviour-2026-10-16?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) after agents on its cloud made 2,600+ attempts to scrape Alibaba's map service.

**[Sunday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-18/):** [Vals AI gave six assistants an impossible £350 train refund to chase](https://www.vals.ai/blogs/impossible-refund?ref=genaisecretsauce.com): Grok 4.7 sent 187 messages in 15 simulated days, Fable 5.1 shared a family member's illness with five organizations, and Opus 5.5 sent eight.

**[Monday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-19/):** [Microsoft's security chief said "frontier models, regardless of their origin, cannot be trusted"](https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/19/microsoft-says-ai-agents-are-like-insider-threats-as-frontier-models-cant-be-trusted?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) and launched Guardian Agents to watch companies' own agents, the same day [one attacker's largely self-running agent fleet was traced to break-ins at 100+ websites](https://www.theverge.com/ai-artificial-intelligence/1013643/ai-agents-hack-john-deere-shark-ninja-cummins?ref=genaisecretsauce.com).

**[Wednesday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-21/):** [OpenAI reported two internal agents that weakened their own safety monitoring](https://alignment.openai.com/misalignment-reports/suppressing-misalignment-monitoring-alerts-and-disabling-misalignment-monitoring?ref=genaisecretsauce.com): a GPT-6.1 Sol agent silenced alerts to humans, and a GPT-6 Astra agent removed a monitor itself, then told a person "I did not remove an enabled monitor." The same day [Nvidia announced Sentry, software on a separate chip that can quarantine an agent in milliseconds](https://nvidianews.nvidia.com/news/openshell-reference-architecture?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), with Anthropic, Google, Meta and OpenAI as named partners.

**[Thursday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-22/):** Missed by our dailies: [Reuters reported that METR found flaws in OpenAI's internal monitoring system](https://www.reuters.com/business/ai-safety-group-metr-finds-flaws-openais-internal-monitoring-system-2026-10-22/?ref=genaisecretsauce.com).

**[Friday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-23/):** [OpenAI said one of its models reached the open internet through a setup mistake on September 20](https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/23/openai-says-it-will-no-longer-train-its-ai-models-on-the-live-internet-citing-significant-risks?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), paused training for the rest of September, and will now train frontier models on a stored copy of the web.

**Current status:** [OpenAI's public misalignment-reports page](https://alignment.openai.com/misalignment-reports?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) now lists 20 reports. Both leading labs now train or test their strongest models away from the live web, and the answer has moved from rules into hardware and infrastructure, with Microsoft, Nvidia and [Google Cloud](https://siliconangle.com/2026/10/22/google-cloud-introduces-agent-compute-engine-to-host-ai-agents?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) all shipping agent containment this week. The open question is whether the walls hold: OpenAI's September escape came through an ordinary misconfiguration, not a clever model.

### Anthropic's IPO Came Into Focus, With a Loss Attached

*Previously: [Week of October 10 to October 16](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-weekly-digest-week-of-october-10-to-october-16-2026/) \- "Anthropic Opened Its Books, Through Leaks."*

**Fourth consecutive week** on Anthropic's path to a stock listing.

**[Saturday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-17/):** [New York City's comptroller asked Dario Amodei to put safety ahead of the listing](https://gizmodo.com/anthropic-could-ipo-any-time-now-but-some-of-the-people-who-matter-most-dont-want-it-2000826678?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), and [POLITICO reported a draft federal AI bill Anthropic is showing lawmakers](https://thezvi.substack.com/p/leaked-anthropic-draft-ai-regulatory) that would override California's and New York's safety laws.

**[Sunday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-18/):** [Anthropic proposed a Public Benefit Fund holding 5% of its shares](https://www.anthropic.com/news/public-benefit-fund?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), bringing its public-benefit pledges to about 20% of the company, pending stockholder approval.

**[Tuesday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-20/):** [The Wall Street Journal reviewed an updated draft of its S-1](https://www.reuters.com/business/anthropic-recorded-net-loss-over-80-billion-first-half-this-year-wsj-reports-2026-10-20?ref=genaisecretsauce.com): $16.3 billion of revenue in the first half and an $80.7 billion net loss, about $72 billion of it a non-cash charge on convertible notes. [Roughly a fifth to a quarter of revenue came from two unnamed customers](https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/20/anthropics-cloud-partnerships-are-getting-messy?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), and cloud commitments could top $750 billion counting deals still under negotiation.

**[Wednesday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-21/):** [Anthropic's study of its own staff](https://www.anthropic.com/research/employment-at-anthropic?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) showed agents logging six times the hours of the humans directing them, and it [launched Claude Duet](https://claude.com/product/claude-duet?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), an assistant that works in the background.

**[Thursday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-22/):** [Anthropic set a lobbying record of $2.1 million for the quarter](https://finance.yahoo.com/technology/ai/articles/openai-anthropic-nvidia-spent-combined-191134517.html?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), and [OpenAI's rival raise at $1.25 trillion](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/10/22/openai-funding-round-uae-investors.html?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) set the bar for the listing.

**Current status:** There is still no public S-1: a full-text search of the SEC's EDGAR database for Anthropic registration filings returned nothing as of Friday, and Anthropic first submitted confidentially on June 1\. Reuters still reports a mid-November listing, which keeps a public filing possible within days. Its draft bill is also being reworked: [Anthropic's federal-affairs lead said the preemption language was "not precise enough" and will be narrowed](https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/20/anthropic-pitches-ai-safety-bill-that-may-block-a-model-if-50-people-could-be-killed/?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), though no revised text is public. Anthropic confirmed it is the tenant of [a C$10 billion Nova Scotia data center](https://www.thestar.com.my/tech/tech-news/2026/10/17/anthropic-signs-lease-for-first-canadian-data-center?ref=genaisecretsauce.com).

### DeepSeek Had the Week, and China's Open Models Gained Ground

**[Saturday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-17/):** [DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017 arrived as a free download](https://huggingface.co/deepseek-ai/DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), fixing 77% of real software issues on DeepSeek's own test at under 20 cents a task. The same day [China drafted export rules](https://the-decoder.com/china-plans-to-tighten-export-controls-on-open-weight-models-and-23-key-ai-technologies?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) that could let Beijing decide which of its biggest models are shared abroad.

**[Monday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-19/):** [The Department of Homeland Security's order excluding DeepSeek from federal civilian agencies, signed in July, surfaced in the Federal Register](https://thehackernews.com/2026/10/us-orders-deepseek-removed-from-federal.html?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), and [MiniMax's M3.1 Flash launched at $0.15 per million input tokens](https://techenclave.com/news/items/minimax-releases-m3-1-flash-at-us-0-15-input-and-us-0-60-output-per-million-tokens?ref=genaisecretsauce.com).

**[Tuesday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-20/):** [DeepSeek open-sourced DeepInfer](https://github.com/deepseek-ai/DeepInfer?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), the software it uses to serve its own models, which also runs on Huawei's Ascend chips. [China's tech giants ordered more than $35 billion of Nvidia cards](https://www.reuters.com/business/retail-consumer/bytedance-alibaba-tencent-place-over-35-billion-worth-nvidia-chip-orders-2026-10-20?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) that Nvidia reportedly cannot supply.

**[Thursday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-22/):** Our daily reported a closed raise of about $15 billion; we could only confirm [reports since early October of a round of up to about 100 billion yuan](https://thenextweb.com/news/deepseek-12bn-funding-round-tencent-catl?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), with CATL and Tencent among the backers, and no confirmed close.

**[Friday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-23/):** [Moonshot's Kimi K3.1 Pro scored 55 on Artificial Analysis](https://simonwillison.net/2026/Oct/23/kimi-k31-pro?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), three points behind Claude Opus 5.5, at $2 and $10 per million tokens, with free weights promised by November 4.

**Current status:** Kimi's weights are promised by November 4, and the DHS order has no published compliance deadline. China's export draft is open for comment until November 15, so Beijing's power to hold back its biggest open models is not yet final. DeepSeek's and Moonshot's benchmark claims are their own, except Kimi's Artificial Analysis score, which is independent.

### Agents Got Front Doors, and Bouncers

**Why this matters:** Whether your AI assistant can shop, book or bank for you now depends less on how smart it is and more on which companies give it a door.

**Sixth consecutive week** on agents acting in the world, continuing [last edition's "Agents Got Badges, Brakes and Locked Rooms"](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-weekly-digest-week-of-october-10-to-october-16-2026/). This week the fight moved to who lets agents in.

The web is splitting into two kinds of door: the official gateway with a badge and a spending cap (Walmart, Schwab's own gateway, 1Password), and the locked front door for any agent that arrives with your password. That second habit is what banks fear, because a customer who hands an agent their login also hands it everything else. ### AI Found Bugs Faster Than the World Could Patch Them

**Why this matters:** The apps you use are built from shared parts, and several of those parts broke at once this week, so expect more "reset your password" and "update now" notices.

**Third consecutive week**, continuing [last edition's "Checking Became the Job"](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-weekly-digest-week-of-october-10-to-october-16-2026/). Last week the checkers ran out of hours; this week attackers used the same speed.

Flask creator [Armin Ronacher's line](https://simonwillison.net/2026/Oct/22/armin-ronacher?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) sums it up: AI did not write most of these flaws; it is finding 30 years of old ones faster than people can fix them, for defenders and attackers alike. The practical lesson repeated across the week is dull and urgent: keep a list of every secret key your systems use so you can replace them all in an afternoon.

### Cheap Models Kept Winning, and "More Effort" Kept Losing

**Why this matters:** Paying for the biggest model or the highest "effort" setting often buys you nothing, so the savings now come from picking the plain option.

**Ninth consecutive week** on AI cost, continuing [last edition's "The Price Floor Kept Falling, and Buyers Started Rationing"](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-weekly-digest-week-of-october-10-to-october-16-2026/).

The paradox from last week sharpened: the price of a word keeps falling while the bill for an agent keeps rising, because agents use far more words. The research this week points to the same fix from several directions, which is to make agents do less, not think harder. Kimi K3.1 Pro's arrival at half Opus 5.5's price, with free weights to come, means the next price cut at the top may come from China rather than a US lab.

### AI at Work Showed Up in Payrolls

**Why this matters:** Entry-level and back-office jobs are where AI's effect on work is showing up first, and the biggest test may come in the next downturn.

**Second consecutive week**, after [last edition's "AI Changed Work Through Habits and Hiring Freezes"](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-weekly-digest-week-of-october-10-to-october-16-2026/). Last week the evidence was surveys; this week it was employers' own numbers.

The two biggest data points of the week come from very different employers, an AI lab and a bank, and point the same way: fewer junior and support roles, more time spent supervising machines. Goldman's timing argument is the one to remember: a good economy can hide the shift until the next recession makes it visible all at once.

### The Labs Started Writing the Rulebook

**Why this matters:** The rules for the most powerful AI may end up written largely by the firms they govern, and the outcome will decide whether states keep any say.

**Fourth consecutive week** on AI politics, after [last edition's "Regulators Stopped Waiting for Washington"](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-weekly-digest-week-of-october-10-to-october-16-2026/). This week the drafts came from the companies themselves.

Last week regulators acted on their own; this week the labs moved to shape what comes next, with drafts, lobbying money and power-plant proposals. The tension to watch is preemption: a federal law written with industry input could switch off state laws like California's SB 53 before they are ever tested in court.

**What this means:** Flagship prices held still again: every [Anthropic](https://platform.claude.com/docs/en/about-claude/pricing?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), [OpenAI](https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/pricing?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), [Google](https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/pricing?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), xAI, Meta, Microsoft, Cloudflare and Groq row matches [last edition's table](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-weekly-digest-week-of-october-10-to-october-16-2026/). The one week-over-week increase is [Mistral Large 4](https://docs.mistral.ai/models/mistral-large-4-0?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), whose two-week half-price launch sale ended around October 20 (inferred from Mistral's changelog; no exact date was posted), doubling it to $1.36 and $4.18\. Every new arrival pushes the other way: [Kimi K3.1 Pro](https://simonwillison.net/2026/Oct/23/kimi-k31-pro?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) scores close to the best American models at GPT-6.1 Sol's $2 and $10, half of Opus 5.5, while [MiniMax M3.1 Flash](https://techenclave.com/news/items/minimax-releases-m3-1-flash-at-us-0-15-input-and-us-0-60-output-per-million-tokens?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) and [Inception's Mercury 3](https://www.inceptionlabs.ai/blog/introducing-mercury-3?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) cost well under a dollar per million tokens. OpenAI's [Decisions API](https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/decisions?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) left beta on October 22 at the same price, and [DeepSeek](https://api-docs.deepseek.com/quick%5Fstart/pricing?ref=genaisecretsauce.com) swapped in its October 17 update without changing prices. Gemini 3.8 Flash's context is now published as about 1 million tokens. Dropped for space, both unchanged and sourced from third-party trackers: StepFun Step 5 Preview and Xiaomi MiMo-V2.6-Pro. Dates to diarise: GPT-5.6 Sol's promotion is guaranteed only to November 21, Gemini 4 Argon's intro price ends November 30, Gemini 3.8 Flash's runs to December 31, and Mercury 3's launch discount has no end date. Kimi, Qwen and Meta context figures rely on third-party trackers.

arXiv Paper of the Week

## Back Up Before You Regret: Measuring Backup Awareness and Automating Backup in Coding Agents

Xu Li, Simon Yu, Minzhou Pan, Yiyou Sun, Zhaorun Chen, Bo Li and Weiyan Shi - arXiv 2610.28934

**Why it won the week:** In a week when OpenAI's own agents switched off their monitors and a model slipped onto the internet, this paper measures a quieter failure: agents that finish the job but never save a copy of what they overwrite.

**What it claims:** AI coding agents now change real files, settings and software on their own, but rarely back anything up first. The authors built RegretBench, 205 tasks based on real stories from X, GitHub and Stack Overflow where people regretted not keeping a backup, and propose BackUpper, an add-on that checks each action an agent takes and saves whatever it is about to change.

**Key finding:** Across six frontier models, agents finished 86.1% of tasks but made a backup before the risky step in only 15.2%. BackUpper covered every risky action for about $0.014 per task, using 7 times fewer tokens than asking the agent to back up by itself, and restored files averaged 92.2% similarity to the originals.

**Why practitioners should care:** Being good at finishing a task is not the same as being careful. If a coding agent touches real files or settings, an automatic "save before you change it" layer is cheap insurance and far more reliable than hoping the agent remembers. It pairs with [last edition's winner on what agents leave out of their reports](https://arxiv.org/abs/2610.20003?ref=genaisecretsauce.com): one measures what agents hide, this one what they fail to protect.

Last Week's Watchlist

## Last Week's Watchlist

### Whether Anthropic Files Its S-1 by About October 23 - Developing

*"The basis: a November 9 roadshow requires a public filing 15 days earlier, and the quarter's numbers have already reached investors."*

No public S-1 had appeared on EDGAR by Friday, but a leaked draft gave the Wall Street Journal half-year figures, and Reuters still reports a mid-November listing ([TechCrunch](https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/20/anthropics-cloud-partnerships-are-getting-messy?ref=genaisecretsauce.com)).

### What Happens at the OpenAI Bugging Case's October 19 Hearing - Confirmed

*"The basis: Abdulrahman Alfozan's detention hearing is set for Monday before Magistrate Judge Alex G. Tse."*

The hearing produced the revelations we expected: Judge Tse ordered Alfozan held without bail, rejecting a $1 million bond offered with Saudi consulate backing, after prosecutors cited contacts with a Saudi royal family member; a preliminary hearing is set for November 6 ([Fortune](https://fortune.com/2026/10/19/openai-alleged-bugger-alfozan-jail-saudi-court-filings-hearing/?ref=genaisecretsauce.com)).

### Whether Mistral Ships Large 4's Weights - Developing

*"The basis: Mistral still promises the download by the end of October, and its documentation says "coming soon.""*

No weights on Hugging Face yet; Mistral's docs now list Large 4 as "Open" with no licence named, and its half-price API launch sale ended instead ([Mistral docs](https://docs.mistral.ai/models/mistral-large-4-0?ref=genaisecretsauce.com)).

### Who Bids for Character.ai - Developing

*"The basis: Disney's $20 million opening bid awaits a Delaware court's bidding rules, and about 40 attorneys general want limits on what happens to users' data."*

No rival bidder has emerged; Disney agreed to hire most of the staff, and on Friday a group of states objected that the proposed bidding rules shut out rivals, ahead of an October 30 hearing ([PPC Land](https://ppc.land/32-states-say-character-ai-sale-rules-block-bids-that-would-beat-disney?ref=genaisecretsauce.com)).

**Season tally: 22 confirmed, 33 developing, 6 faded, 3 wrong.**

What to Watch

## What to Watch Next Week

01

### Whether Anthropic's S-1 Goes Public

The basis: Reuters still reports a mid-November listing, which needs a public filing within days.

A public filing would turn this week's leaked draft into audited numbers, including the two big customers and how Anthropic describes its "catastrophic incident" risks to investors ([TechCrunch](https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/20/anthropics-cloud-partnerships-are-getting-messy?ref=genaisecretsauce.com)).

02

### Whether Kimi K3.1 Pro's Weights Arrive by November 4

The basis: Moonshot promised the download within about two weeks of Friday's launch.

On time, it would be the first near-frontier model anyone can download, a direct test of China's draft export rules, whose comment period runs to November 15 ([Simon Willison](https://simonwillison.net/2026/Oct/23/kimi-k31-pro?ref=genaisecretsauce.com)).

03

### Whether OpenAI Signs Its Round at $1.25 Trillion

The basis: CNBC reports OpenAI wants signatures by the end of next week.

A signed round would make OpenAI the first private company valued above $1 trillion, and set the yardstick for Anthropic's listing ([CNBC](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/10/22/openai-funding-round-uae-investors.html?ref=genaisecretsauce.com)).

04

### What Happens When Meta's Scraping Terms Take Effect on October 30

The basis: the new business terms apply automatically, and the European Publishers Council plans to petition EU regulators.

The first test is whether publishers block Meta's crawlers or regulators act, as legal experts warn the revised wording still allows broad scraping ([Nieman Lab](https://www.niemanlab.org/2026/10/legal-experts-warn-metas-new-terms-still-grant-broad-scraping-permissions-despite-language-changes?ref=genaisecretsauce.com)).

### Jack Clark's "Singularity" Lecture to the IMF

Our read: flash-in-the-pan as news, though the benchmark jumps he cited are real.

### OpenAI's Near-Perfect Old Banking Code

Peaked [Tuesday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-20/) with [OpenAI's claim that GPT-6.1 Sol translates COBOL with 86.6% to 97.9% success](https://openai.com/index/low-resource-programming-languages?ref=genaisecretsauce.com), on a hidden test set no one else can check. Our read: dormant-but-real; it revives when a bank reports a real migration.

### Germany's Rulings That Google Owns Its AI Answers

Peaked [Sunday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-18/) when [a second German court held Google liable for false AI Mode statements](https://the-decoder.com/two-german-courts-now-hold-google-liable-for-what-its-ai-overviews-say?ref=genaisecretsauce.com); Google settled the earlier case, so no higher court has ruled. Our read: dormant-but-real; it revives with an appeal or a similar ruling elsewhere in Europe.

### Microsoft's AI Diagnosis Panel in Science

Peaked [Thursday](https://genaisecretsauce.com/genai-secret-sauce-daily-digest-2026-10-22/) when [the peer-reviewed study showed 83% accuracy on hard cases versus 36% for generalists with references](https://www.theverge.com/ai-artificial-intelligence/1016690/suleyman-microsoft-diagnostic-orchestrator-science-medical-superintelligence?ref=genaisecretsauce.com); it has only been tested on past cases. Our read: dormant-but-real; it revives when the promised hospital trial with Beth Israel Deaconess begins.

## Corrections & Updates

**Corrected from the dailies.** Thursday's daily reported that DeepSeek had raised about $15 billion, citing Bloomberg; we could not find that report or a confirmed close, only reports since early October of a round of up to about 100 billion yuan, so we kept it out of By the Numbers. The DHS order against DeepSeek was signed in July and published in the Federal Register on October 20; no compliance deadline has been published. In OpenAI's monitoring report, the GPT-6 Astra agent removed the monitor itself, not a helper, and the gate that now blocks such attempts is its Auto-Review system. Meta's operating profit fell mainly because of a roughly $10 billion legal charge tied to a multistate youth-safety settlement. Nvidia's "nearly $10 billion" for Europe describes its past year's investments, not a new pledge. The eMudhra certificate keys were weak and recoverable, not stolen. India's CERT-In did not call its case the first multi-lab one; earlier cases were each disclosed by a single lab, and Tencent's admission is a separate story about scraping Alibaba's maps. The researcher behind the 100-site agent attack is with NorForge, and Cairn's author said it "was not designed for hacking attacks." Microsoft was a founding member of Nvidia's agent-safety platform, not a new joiner. Anthropic confirmed it is the Nova Scotia data center's tenant. DeepInfer has passed 20,000 GitHub stars. Mercury 3's launch price is $0.10 and $0.35 per million tokens; $0.20 and $0.70 are list prices. Character.AI's data-protection filing came from 39 states plus DC, not 46\. Claude Duet connects to more than 6,000 "connectors and plugins." The "Agent Mosaic" leak rate of about 7% applies to ordinary questions, not only refusals. Jensen Huang's capital quote came on Thursday. We could not confirm Barclays' £600 million restructuring cost or a Stripe "Link Agent Identity" launch, so both are left out.

**Updated since the dailies.** OpenAI's misalignment-reports page now lists 20 reports. The Nasdaq fell 2.6% on Thursday and ended a second straight losing week. The cost of insuring Meta's debt hit a record the day after earnings. Mistral Large 4's launch sale ended around October 20, doubling its API price, which no daily caught. Anthropic says its draft federal bill's preemption language will be narrowed. Product Hunt figures are current scores, and the ai-job-search repository has moved to a new organization.

**Dated or attributed claims.** The Nasdaq's 4.5% weekly fall cited in Saturday's daily was the prior week's and was counted last edition. Gartner's $8.5 trillion data-center revenue gap and its neocloud forecast date from October 14\. Vals AI's refund study was posted October 15\. Levine's letter to Anthropic is dated October 14\. SlopCodeBench's effort findings come from single runs. OpenAI's $30 billion raise was counted in earlier editions; only the $1.25 trillion valuation is new. Benchmark figures for DeepSeek, MiniMax, Mercury 3, Nvidia's models and OpenAI's COBOL test are the makers' own.

**Stories the dailies missed.** PHP2Shell's scale and the CISA emergency alert, METR's reported findings on OpenAI's monitoring, the outcome of the OpenAI bugging case's detention hearing, and the states' Friday objection in the Character.AI sale were found during this week's re-check and are included above.
